Balance in Waves

Balance: equipoise between contrasting, opposing, or interacting elements; equality between the totals of the two sides of an account
(Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, April 16, 2007)

Balance in Waves is a formal study of grace and balance in an asymmetrical scheme. Steel, being a man-made material, has been reshaped into an organic design. This emphasizes the balanced relationship between what humans create with what is from the earth. Because the work is mounted to the wall, it is non-obtrusive to the space, but the tenuous balance of the curved rods creates a noticeable significance in the room. The circles, or bubbles, that float on the wall add a more whimsical feeling, and create a balance with stress the curving rods. The purpose of Balance in Waves is to leave the viewer with the assurance that balance can be created anywhere. Balance in Waves was designed and created by Julie M. Huegen and was installed by the artist on April 13, 2007.
